In an effort to improve the safety of the community by identifying sexual offenders, it shall be the policy of the Peekskill Police Department to track registered sex offenders and disseminate the appropriate information about those offenders as provided by the Sex Offender Registration Act.
Only authorized members, above the rank of Police Officer, of the City of Peekskill Police Department may disseminate information about Level 1, Level 2 and Level 3 sex offenders. Such dissemination may only be made to entities with a vulnerable population. However, all sworn police officers may advise members of the public who inquire as to how they may gather information on sex offenders that they can do so by clicking here. In addition to the website, members of the public may also be referred to a telephone number maintained by the State of New York (800-262-3257).
Individuals who desire further information on sex offenders residing in the community should be referred to the Detective Division Commander, or in his/her absence, the Executive Officer or Chief of Police, as a file is maintained in the Detective Division of all sex offenders residing in the City of Peekskill. Since these files contain more information then is available to the public, care must be taken that the only information that is disseminated to the public is that which is allowed by law.
