Welcome to Peekskill, New York

Visable from many points on the Hudson River, including the Bear Mountain Bridge, Iona Island is full of mystery and forgotten history.
Doc Bayne, renowned local historian, photographer and educator, presents the forgotten history of Iona Island, from the living of Native Americans on the island, through the colonial farms and settlements, when it was known as Salisbury Island, and later as Weygant's Island. In the late 1800s it attracted tourists with an amusement park, hotel, and picnic grounds.

Residents are asked NOT to blow or rake yard wastes such as grass clippings into the street. Check storm drain inlets in your neighborhood to make sure they are free of debris.

Rake leaves, grass and debris away from the inlet and dispose of properly. You should immediately report the problem to City Hall if the debris is excessive or causes any back up or flooding. Never remove the inlet grate from the storm drain opening - this creates a hazard.
