Peekskill Warns about Alcohol Abuse during Prom

June 12, 2012

The City of Peekskill Police Department once again got the message across to Peekskill High School seniors that alcoholic beverages and prom don’t mix when they set up what is commonly known as the “crash car” at the Peekskill Riverfront Green the night of the senior prom on June 7th .  The riverfront is a popular location for local teens to meet up and take pictures before setting off to prom in limousines and party buses.  School Resource Officer Andre Wright and DARE officer Pam Sgroi were on hand to ensure the kids were safe and alcohol free.  The crash car belongs to a Dutchess County man who lost his father in the vehicle to a teenager driving drunk.  He has allowed several police departments to utilize the vehicle as a powerful message to take drunk driving seriously.    As in previous years, parents were made aware beforehand that police officers and school officials would be on hand and would inspect vehicles for alcohol.  The prom was a success and there were no incidents during the party.
