The primary responsibility of the Planning Commission is to advise the Common Council and other agencies and boards on matters that affect the City's development. The Planning Commission is also charged with reviewing all new construction projects in the city to include Minor and Major Subdivision Applications, Site Plan Review Applications and, Planning Commission Special permit applications, and Artist Loft Applications. Additionally, The Planning Commission provides recommendations to the Common Council on Common Council Special Permits & Rezoning Applications. The Planning Commission also reviews projects in the City's Capital Budget that require coordination between the City's Comprehensive Plan and Local Waterfront Revitalization Program (LWRP).
