The Historic and Landmarks Preservation Board (HLPB) oversees the Historic Preservation Program in the City of Peekskill. The HLPB recommends the designation of local historic landmarks and historic districts and the Common Council makes the final designation. The HLPB reviews Certificate of Appropriateness Applications which include Letter of Joinder , Short EAF Form, and APPLICATION FOR CERTIFICATE OF APPROPRIATENESS (COA) for all exterior work proposed in a local historic district or on a local landmarkincluding signs. A Certificate of Appropriateness must be issued by the HLPB prior to construction in these designated areas.
The HLPB administers grants received through the NYS Certified Local Government Program and undertakes special projects with State funding.
The HLPB meetings are usually held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7:30 P.M. in the Common Council Chambers in City Hall. For more information contact Jean Friedman, City Planner, at 914-734-4218.
