Keon Center has Ribbon Cutting
Mayor Mary Foster spoke to those who gathered for the Keon Center's Official Ribbon Cutting which is located on John Walsh Blvd.  The Keon Center works with mentally disabled adults and is a rehabilitation program.  They recently moved from the Montrose V.A.
The Keon Center was formed in 1959 and some of the original members of the Keon Center were on hand for the festivities.  Executive Director Bill Melville is happy to be back in Peekskill.
Board of Director members are joined by County Legislator George Oros, Cortlandt Supervisor Linda Puglisi, Mayor Mary Foster, and Councilmembers Bennett and Claxton.
Peekskill Honors it's Finest at Ceremony.
The Peekskill Police Department awarded members of the force with service awards during the May 12 Common Council Meeting.  Family and friends of the officers were on hand to congratulate the members who protect our fine city.
Chief Tumolo was joined by his Lieutenants and Police Captain to award members for bravery on the job and for protecting our citizens.
Chief Tumolo handed out over 50 awards to members of the department.  The ceremony was held in conjuntion with the celebration of Police Week.  For further information, please call the Peekskill Police Department at (914) 737-8000.
Peekskill PAPA Association Holds Memorial Observance and Street Dedication
The Peekskill Area Pastor's Association held a memorial observance as well as renaming Dayton Lane, Pope John XXIII way.  The ceremony was held on the corner of Dayton Lane and Main St.
First Hebrew Congregation of Peekskill's Rabbi Claudio Kupchick served as the master of ceremonies to honor those of the Jewish Faith who lost their lives.  During the ceremony, Dayton Lane was also renamed Angelo Roncalli, Pope John XXII Way.
Mayor Mary Foster and members of PAPA hold the street signs that will be placed at each congreation and Parish.  This inter faith ceremony will be shown on the Peekskill Government Channel.
The Peekskill Great Parks Sweep
The Peekskill Great Parks Sweep was held on Saturday, April 19.  Riverfront Green, Tompkins Park, Fort Hill Park, Franklin Park, and Depew Park were cleaned by neighborhood residends.  The day finished with a barbeque at Riverfront Green.
The City of Peekskill Youth Bureau's LIFT program participated as well as the Peekskill City School District.  The school district students painted garbage barrels to send a message to put your trash in the garbage bins.
City Residents Mary Ann DeMarco and her niece, Laura Gazzigli filled 15 bags of leaves and garbage.  They said
Easter Egg Hunt a Huge Success
The Easter bunny was out in full force joining area residents hunt for eggs.  The weather was great for all who attended.  Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt was held on Friday night and was also a success.
About three hundred parents and their children joined together to hunt for eggs.  Later in the day they were treated to a clown who entertained the crowd.
The Easter Bunny helped this child search for eggs.  This event was sponsored by the Peekskill Parks & Recreation and supported by the Rotary Club.
The City Applauds March of Dimes Efforts
An official ceremony was held to honor the efforts of the March of Dimes.  Representatives from the March of Dimes were joined by Mayor John G. Testa, Councilman Don Bennett, who is active with the March of Dimes, and City Staff.
The March of Dimes works with prematurity births in infants throughout the year by spreading awareness about this problem.  A proclamation was given on behalf of the City of Peekskill.
To honor the March of Dimes, The City Hall Cupola was lit in the colors representing the March of Dimes throughout the Month of November.
Peekskill Marketplace Has Grand Opening
The Peekskill Marketplace held their grand opening in November with a street closing for their 13,000 square foot market.  The Peekskill Marketplace is located on Park Street and is the first supermarket located in the downtown in decades. Owner Wilson Narvarez was joined by his wife and family as well as Mayor Testa and members of the City Council.
The Peekskill Marktetplace has a full produce section, a fish market, deli section, as well as a full line of groceries.  They also make fresh cheese.
The Peekskill Marketpace is located at 1049 Park Street and is open from 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 p.m. Estimates are the store will employ over 40 people.  This is a great addition to the downtown.
City of Peekskill Teams up with New Semi-Pro Team... Peekskill Robins
An exciting announcement was made at an official press conference on Monday, December 17.  The former Stamford Robins are now the Peekskill Robins and will be playing their home games at Peekskill Stadium.  Joining Mayor Testa are Mike DeAngleo, President & Director of Player Procurement, Barry Schechtman, GM and Dir. of Baseball Operations, Tim Kelly, Director of Marketing,Luis Melendez, Field Manager, and Peekskill Resident, Matt Maher who is a player and Peekskill resident.
Barry Schechtman, General Manager and Director of Baseball Operations, and Timothy Kelly, Director of Marketing are excited that the team will be playing in Peekskill and are hoping for the city resident's support.  Check out the Peekskill Robins website at www.robinsbaseball.com.
Matt Maher, a resident of Peekskill has recently signed on with the Peekskill Robins.  The Robins are a College All-Star team which play at a very high level.  The Robins will be playing in the summer league where their home games will be played at Peekskill Stadium.
Life-Size Lincoln Statue Unveiled at Official Ceremony
A life-size statue of President Abraham Lincoln was unveiled and placed in front of the Lincoln Depot Museum on Saturday, October 27.  Despite the rain, many ventured down to the museum to take part in the official unveiling of the statue.
Mayor Testa was joined by former Governor George Pataki and his wife Libby, Assembly Woman Galef, County Legislator George Oros, Sculptor Richard Masloski, Develop, Developer Martin Ginsburg, and Historian Howard Holzer.
Sculptor Richard Masloski explains the detail and craftsmanship that went into the design of the Statue to former Governor Pataki, Historian Howard Holzer, and Martin Ginsburg.  The statue stands near the exact location where President Lincoln Spoke to Peekskill residents in 1861 on his way to his inauguration.
Ginsburg Development Corporation Donates 40 Acres of Land at Fort Hill to the City of Peekskill
Mayor Testa, dressed in his official Revolutionary War uniform, is joined by Deputy Mayor Pisani, Councilman Martinez, Foster, Claxton, Martin Ginsburg, County Legislator George Oros, and County Executive Andy Spano to announce the donation of historic land at Fort Hill Park from the Ginsburg Development Corporation.
County Executive Spano expressed how important it was to preserve this historic park land and how much of an impact that Fort Hill had in American History.
Martin Ginsurg helped to cut the ribbon to officially donate the 40 acres of land.  Mr. Ginsburg also expressed his feelings to city residents as to the importance of this land.  Members of the Fort Hill Neighborhood Alliance were also on hand as well as City Historian John Curran.  You can view the Ribbon Cutting on Government Channel 78.
